Local Lagrangian formalism and discretization of the Heisenberg magnet model

چکیده
In this paper we develop the Lagrangian and multisymplectic structures of the Heisenberg magnet (HM) model which are then used as the basis for geometric discretizations of HM. Despite a topological obstruction to the existence of a global Lagrangian density, a local variational formulation allows one to derive local conservation laws using a version of Nöther’s theorem from the formal variational calculus of Gelfand-Dikii. Using the local Lagrangian form we extend the method of Marsden, Patrick and Schkoller to derive local multisymplectic discretizations directly from the variational principle. We employ a version of the finite element method to discretize the space of sections of the trivial magnetic spin bundle N = M × S over an appropriate space-time M . Since sections do not form a vector space, the usual FEM bases can be used only locally with coordinate transformations intervening on element boundaries, and conservation properties are guaranteed only within an element. We discuss possible ways of circumventing this problem, including the use of a local version of the method of characteristics, non-polynomial FEM bases and Lie-group discretization methods.

On the equivalence of the discrete nonlinear Schrödinger equation and the discrete isotropic Heisenberg magnet
The equivalence of the discrete isotropic Heisenberg magnet (IHM) model and the discrete nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE) given by Ablowitz and Ladik is shown. This is used to derive the equivalence of their discretization with the one by Izgerin and Korepin. Moreover a doubly discrete IHM is presented that is equivalent to Ablowitz’ and Ladiks doubly discrete NLSE.
متن کاملHidden quantum R - matrix in discrete time classical Heisenberg magnet
We construct local M-operators for an integrable discrete time version of the classical Heisenberg magnet by convolution of the twisted quantum trigonometric 4×4 R-matrix with certain vectors in its " quantum " space. Components of the vectors are identified with τ-functions of the model. Hirota's bilinear formalism is extensively used. The construction generalizes the known representation of M...

متن کاملDiscretization of a fractional order ratio-dependent functional response predator-prey model, bifurcation and chaos
This paper deals with a ratio-dependent functional response predator-prey model with a fractional order derivative. The ratio-dependent models are very interesting, since they expose neither the paradox of enrichment nor the biological control paradox. We study the local stability of equilibria of the original system and its discretized counterpart. We show that the discretized system, which is...
متن کاملHigh-temperature Spin Dynamics of the Classical Heisenberg Magnet in One, Two, Three and Infinite Dimensions
Time-dependent spin-autocorrelation functions at T = oo for the classical Heisenberg magnet in dimensions d = 1,2 and 3 are investigated by computer simulations. For the equivalent-neighbor Heisenberg model, the autocorrelation function is calculated analytically. Local spin fluctuations in magnetic insulators at high temperature spread rather slowly and persist over appreciable times and dista...
